C - LORD JESUS CHRIST THE UNIVERSAL KING

  1. FAUSTI - S. FAUSTI - The text shows us the kingship of Jesus, source of salvation. From the summit of the cross, His throne, the Lord accomplishes God's judgment on enemies: He forgives and gives the Kingdom to evildoers.
Here we understand well how Jesus is King and what is the salvation that He brings. He is a King who exercises His freedom in serving: the only power of his is to love until death.
His salvation is not what the man awaits.
It is that of a God who let's himself to be condemned to our own penalty only to stay with us.
On the cross Jesus realizes the Kingdom that He had announced at the beginning .
He is the poor King, hungry, weeping, hated, condemned, insulted and rejected as a wretch one.
He loves the enemies, makes good to them, blesses them, intercedes for them, resists to evil bringing it , He is willing to suffer more in order not to give it back , and He gives others the salvation that everyone would like for itself.
This kingship of Him reveals the grace and the mercy of God:
He is the Son equal to the Father, who does not judge, does not condemn, forgives and gives the life for His brothers.
Before that example of the martyrs, Jesus Himself is martyr, He is witness of the Father's love for all His children. So that He opens then the Kingdom.
His cross of Righteous is the justification of all the unjust and salvation of the world.
It's in fact revelation and closeness of a Free Love God, Who in His mercy makes Himself neighbour to sinful man.
Every theology of liberation , in order not to fall into the idolatry and produce other disposals, it must come to terms with the cross of Jesus.
He rejects as temptations our hopes of salvation based on signs of strength and power .
They would multiply that evil from which He wants to tear us .
"Save himself" is the repeated refrain at Golgotha. It delineates the supreme aspiration of the man, who , sprung by fear of death, tries to save from it himself at all costs, establishing the strategy of having, of power and appearance.
But really this anxiety of life generates the selfishness, true death of man as a child of God.
Hence every other evil and false way of understanding life and death.
Jesus does not free us from death, but from the fear of it, that poisons us all life .

In fact "the sting of death is sin." Sin is basically that lie that has taken us away the knowledge of God as Love and prevents us accepting to be from Him and for Him.
Just where we fear the absolute solitude - the nothingness and the damnation - we discover a God who gives us His solidarity and communion with Him, that is life.
Loneliness is the only evil from which no one can save by himself.
It falls the false image of a dreadful God, who is at the beginning of the fear of death,
of selfishness, anxiety of life, coveting for having , power of appearing, cause of all evil.
The salvation that Jesus brings us then it has first source in reconciliation of man with the Father of life.
The initial three temptations in the desert are now in a more radical form and in reverse order.

  2. --->They aren't some doubts about how to realize the Kingdom, but an ascertainment of the sterility of all His work. The salvation that the Son of God has brought ,seems not to have any relevance nor religious, nor political, nor personal
On the cross, it seems that everything will end, and come back as before. Indeed, worse than before, because evil seems have won .
But this is really the decisive victory. Our radical evil is the desire to save ourselves.
Jesus, losing Himself for us, He wins it.
His temptations pertain the futility of the Cross and His salvation.
They are the constant temptations of the Church and of every man.
We have to get out of trap of our waiting ,to grasp God's perspective .
The salvation consists in moving away from the first to the second criminal.
This convinced of his doing evil and of the solidarity of his Lord with him, he is the only one that Jesus canonizes, elevating him to the glory of Heaven.
He is the prototype of all the saints of the New Testament, criminals that are pardoned by the cross of Jesus.
